Information about the Cardiac Muscle Cell

Functions:
This cell is only found in the heart and specializes in efficiently pumping blood through the body during the duration of the kangaroos life.

An Example of Feedback:
The cardiac muscle cells receive messages from the hypothalamus and a region in the brain stem.

An Interesting Fact:
This cell type is considered to be both a voluntarily and involuntarily cell type.

Information about the Muscle Tissue

Function:
Voluntarily or involuntarily contracts muscles in the body. In this system the muscle tissue voluntarily or involuntarily contracts the heart  to pump blood through the body.

PictureMajor Cell Types:
  • Skeletal Muscle Cells
  • Cardiac Muscle Cells (Main cell type for circulatory system)
  • Smooth Muscle Cells
An Interesting Fact:
This tissue is found throughout the body and allows the body to move.

Information about the Heart

Function:
  • A muscular organ that contracts to pump blood through the body by way of arteries and blood vessels
PictureMajor Tissues:
  • Epithelial Tissue
  • Muscle Tissue
  • Nervous Tissue
  • Connective Tissue
An Interesting Fact:
The heart can keep beating even separated from the body because it has its own electrical pulses.

Information about Circulatory System

Functions:
    Picture
  • delivers oxygen to cells and removes carbon dioxide from them
  • carries nutrients from digested food to cells
  • disposes of wastes and poisons that could harm the body (if present)
  • helps protect body from disease
  • transports hormones
  • warms/cools the body
Main Organs:
  • Heart
  • Blood Vessels (not an organ but very important)
  • Brain
  • Lungs
 An Interesting Fact:
  1.  The Western Grey Kangaroo has the same circulatory system as humans.
  2.  It takes a red blood cell 20 seconds to circulate through the body.
